A chemical compound is a type of thing with constant chemical properties and chemical composition. Some examples include sugar, oil, water, salt, ammonia, hydrogen and air. Some sources point out that chemical properties cannot be separated from their constituent molecules by physical means, i.e. without breaking chemical bonds between them. Hence, all known natural substances, such as oxygen, hydrogen and carbon dioxide, are classified under this category.

There are three common types of chemical compounds. The first is an organic compound, which includes all natural materials derived from living things. These include organic compounds produced in living organisms, such as plant, animal and human cells. The next type is inorganic compound, which includes all man-made materials, such as steel, glass, etc., including the inorganic materials themselves. And the last type is a combination of an inorganic and a non-living compound, which include almost everything that exists in nature, whether in a living or non-living state.

Chemical compounds have many characteristics and uses. They help plants grow and flourish by allowing the right balance of water, air and nutrients to pass through them. They are used in the manufacture of medicines, food, pesticides, lubricants, dyes and the like. Their uses are very wide and there are no limits to what they can do. Many companies use chemicals to improve their products and make them more efficient. They are used extensively in industries as well as in laboratories and medical institutions to aid in the synthesis of new medicines and drugs. Some examples of these chemicals are benzene chloride, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, chloroform, chlorine and the likes.
